Meet Cricket. Oscar’s new sister. She’s a chiweenie we adopted from a rescue last week. I’m not gonna lie, it’s been kinda rough bringing in a second dog. Not because Oscar doesn’t love her, but because she has some issues we need to address. She’s the sweetest most cuddly little thing you’ll meet, not food or toy aggressive in the least and loves people! However, once she’s on a leash she goes nuts at other dogs, which is why my daily walks have been pretty non existent this week.
I think a lot has to do with the fact that she was a stray, totally underweight and covered in fleas and parasites that plays a factor in her behavior. I know it’s just a fear reaction being on the leash, seeing as she’s never really been on one much.
I’ve been doing a ton of research on leash reactivity, so this weekend, while hubs is home, I’m going to try and put those methods to the test. Positive reinforcement for the win! She’s already learned to sit and hasn’t had any accidents in the house for days, so I’m hoping she’ll be a quick learner and associate the sight of another dog with something positive (aka the treats I will be giving her).
If having 2 dogs is this much work, I should probably pass on that whole having kids thing haha.
Also, if anyone has any experience with leash reactivity/ aggression, any advice would be great!
